In this section I want
to discuss about some common Pest & disease of honey Bee and their
treatments.
Nosema
disease: It is caused by Nosema apis which attacks lining of the
stomach causing dtsentry. The spores of this pathogen are passed out with
faeces of the infected bees and eaten up by the worker bees while cleaning the comb.

Treatment:
Sterilazing of brood box and frames with glacial acetic acid with 40% formalin
fumes.
2.
Amoebic Disease: It is caused by Malpighamoeba mellificea which infests
the malpighian tubules. The cysted amoeba are passed into the intestine whence
to the exterior along with the faeces to infect other bees .
3.
Acarine disease: It is caused by Acrarapis woodi which enters through
tracheae and feed upon the body fluids.

Treatment: controlled by exposing the effected colony to a mixture of safrol oil(1pt.), nitrobenzene(2 pts) and petrol(2pts)

Varroatosis Disease: Varroa destructor is an external parasitic
mite that attacks honey bees Apis cerena
and Aois mellifera. The disease caused by the mite is called Varroatosis.

Treatment: Miticides are commonly used for controlling these diseases .
5.
American foul brood: It is caused by Paenibacillus larvae. The bee larvae die
after the cells have been capped, turn chocolate-brown and later change into a
ropy mess producing a foul smell.
Treatment:
mild infection treated by dusting could be repealed.
6.
European foul brood: It is caused by Bacillus pluton.which seem to appear in succession also not been reported from tropical countries. The larvae die before the cells are capped occupy unnatural positions in the cells and turn chocolate brown but do not emit foul smell.

Bess
also affected by the moths, beetles, wasps, ants, lizards, birds and even by
human by radiation from cell tower or cell phone.
The common activities
as precaution for Diseases are given bellow:
- Box should be kept tightly.
- All the crank & crevices should be filled.
- Hive entrance should be reduced to width.
- Destructions of near waps nets
- Using Para-di-chlorobenzene (PDB) tablets for 4-5 times.
- Weak colony should be strengthen by adding brood frames or queen replaced.
After ensuring all the precautions we can expect an healthy bee hive from which we can collect honey and can be benefited. Although this Apiculture is not so popular in our country , the Government should take little bit more care for encouraging farmers by supplying technology and necessary capital .
